Coming onto a project midway through is never easy but Bobby handled it perfectly. He was the exact breath of fresh air the team needed. Very professional in all facets of his duties Bobby continues to be a pleasure to conduct relations with both personally and professionally.
Bobby has to be one of the best “people” Producers I have ever worked with. From day 1 he was able to build confidence of the team. Add to that a detailed understanding and modern approach to project management and you have a winner !
Mr. Steele is a highly motivated intelligent individual, who possesses a strong work ethic. I was impress by his ability to learn the testing process with no prior experience and excel quickly. He is adept at problem solving as working well in a team environment. I would be please to work with Mr. Steele again.
Bobby is an easy going and easily approachable person. Walking the fine line of having to listen to the team’s concerns and carrying out the Producer’s directive is a stressful job, and Bobby did an excellent job of walking that tight rope. Very knowledgeable of the gaming industry and very friendly, Bobby would make an excellent addition to any team.
It was extremely lucky to have had Bobby at the helm, as producer of an otherwise completely untenable, curse-ridden project. Dropping in any other producer into a production whose gears were already spinning as this one was would’ve been an extremely difficult process. This particular project was enmired in the game-engine equivalent of trench warfare, the worst technical experience of my career and most everyone else’s on the team. It basically required a producer made of the stuff they make blast-furnace firewalls out of. Bobby tackled the metrics of the project’s problems immediately upon joining the team, kept his ears open to the Art folks at the same time, and maintained excellent communication and a steady helm through to the end. If we hadn’t had Bobby’s cool, calm, unsnappable and quazi-monklike temperament, along with a healthy, much-needed sense of humor to get through it, the damn thing would’ve been impossible to pull off otherwise. Not once did my confidence in this guy waver. It would be an honor/privilege to work for him again anywhere.
Bobby Steele was a solid producer that bridged the barbed wire fence between management and artists. And he did it seemingly effortlessly. Very approachable but no non-sense when deadlines or his responsibilities were concerned. A great mixture of professional and friend.
Bobby Steele is able to walk the delicate line between the upper management of production and the implementers under him. He both maintains what the upper management wants and protects those working under him. He is also very knowledgeable about the design process and helped with the implementation by doing excess design work.
I worked with Bobby at Collision Studios, where he was brought in to a quagmire project late in the game. Bobby’s knowledge of the industry and process made a huge difference in actually getting things under control and gave us an accurate picture of what we had to do to finish. On top of being very knowledgeable and dedicated, he’s also very personable and would make a great addition to any team.
Bobby was very good at keeping realistic schedules and making sure they were met on time or even early. Whenever I had an issue that needed to be addressed be it missing art, missing tech, or just approvals from the owner to get working on a given task Bobby made sure to get it worked out ASAP. He was also easy to get along with and fun to work with.
I worked with Bobby on the High Heat Baseball series in the early 2000s. He was an Associate Producer at that time. He was always enthusiastic about games in general and our product in particular. He was always eager to research and solve problems and find different ways to help make it better. He was always willing to help get things done and never shy to try to solve problems even in areas where he was not expert.
Bobby is a great producer to work with. When our paths crossed the project was in rough waters. Yet Bobby stayed calm all the way through. And while it would have been easy to succumb to wishful thinking he did his best to stay realistic and worked happily within the confines of the project. Bobby pulled long hours and stuck around when other team members needed to stay late just in case there was a way for him to help out. One such way was scripting. To all our surprise Bobby ended up adding various features and fixing numerous bugs like no other producer I have ever worked with.
Bobby is one of the best producers I have ever worked with. He sets realistic goals by taking time lines set by upper management, challenging project lead’s initial time estimates, and finding a balance that both works with the production schedule and is still realistic within the bounds of development. Bobby focuses on realistic goals. He realizes that setting absurd deadlines, forcing the entire development team to works ridiculous hours, and then playing a blame game when the project inevitably fails is not a proper development cycle. Bobby raises red flags regarding impossible deadlines based of his lead’s estimates immediately, thus avoiding last second crunches. Bobby’s programming background also helps him communicate with the Technical pipelines. It allows him the ability to challenge initial time estimates and discount potentially false information. He can also immediately determine impossible programming time lines before even needing to discuss with the programming team and thus is able to leverage more time when it is needed right away. Bobby was great to work with personally because he would push me to come up with the best possible time estimates and really work at creating realistic goals without too much padding, as he was able to take care of padding himself. Further, he showed a genuine concern for his team which made us all work that much harder because we knew “he had our backs” so to speak. Bobby excels not only at proper time management, but also at galvanizing the development groups as true teams that get the job done.
